Care Recommendations for Your Pullets

What the simplest and most effective care recommendations for started pullets? Read below for best results in keeping your laying hens healthy, happy, and productive!

Hens require 15 hours of light / 9 hours of darkness

We recommend plugging your light into a timer and setting it to go dark at sundown and come back on nine hours later. This especially important during the fall and winter months getting pullets to start laying.

Ensure plenty of free access to highly visible water

We recommend either gravity waterers or nipple waterers. The pullets have most likely been raised thus far on nipple waterers so should take them easily.

Use layer feed with 18%+ protein

We recommend consulting with your local feed mill for best feed mix available or purchase at a farm store. Always feed 18% or better for premium results including egg quantity and size. We don’t recommend feeding pellets as the pullets haven’t been grown with them and may not recognize them as feed.

Hens prefer dry and clean fluffy bedding

We recommend shaving or straw on a regular replacement schedule, but above all make sure it is dry.

Provide at least 3 square feet per hen

We recommend at least 3 square feet per hen of inside space and an ample outside run or free-range area.

Collect eggs regularly

We recommend collecting eggs at least once daily for best results.

I got those hens from you last year. They are the best hens, still laying.

The ones we got last fall are fantastic. They are egg laying machines. Through winter 85  to 90 percent daily production!

Your chickens are performing really well for us. Still laying every day. So we will definitely want some if we can get more.

These are the friendliest chickens and they are laying like crazy! I love em! I will definitely get more chickens in the future! I’ve had chickens for 13 years and these are just great!

Just wanted to let you know I am very pleased with these pullets. I have never had a group that calmed down after the move like this group.
